Flirtation and Angular Tango
Brad Richter's “Flirtation and Angular Tango” are further proof of the extraordinary musical possibilities that the guitar offers. Both pieces explore dropping the sixth string to C, which produces rich sounds throughout the piece. “Flirtation” serves as an introduction to its partner, “Angular Tango”. “Flirtation” will help you work on short, left-hand slur motifs, chord balancing for the right hand, and cross-string runs. “Angular Tango” uses Argentinian tango rhythms and harmonic progressions. However, Brad adds chromatic saturation and constantly-changing mixed meters, expanding the colors and pulse of the piece. The “angular” dimension is represented by the way the piece is laid out on the guitar fretboard, including the way the melodic lines are constructed. This set of pieces is guaranteed to be fun to learn and to perform!
